Intro:

Over the past few years, I went from sitting on the sidelines (a.k.a. my couch) to finishing 5k's, 10k's, a half marathon, and triathlon relay. More recently, I've begun changing my focus to CrossFit workouts and fitting in a few runs here and there!

Along the way I've managed to lose a total of 40 lbs! Join me on my journey to keep pushing forward while maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle.

Opening up about weight loss and progress (photos included)

Top: Me at a 5k with friends in October 2010 | Bottom: Me at the Wine Country Half Marathon May 2011

Since December 2010, I have lost a total of 26 lbs.  My weight loss has been slow, yet very steady, averaging about 5lbs. a month,  and to say that I am so much happier now is putting it lightly.  I mention that because, those closest to me, know that over the past few years weight loss has been a HUGE struggle…..as in, it just wasn’t happening for me.

Background:
I started the couch25k running plan in 2009 – no weight loss
I trained for my first half marathon in 2010 – no true solid weight loss
Got a running injury late fall – no weight loss

It wasn't until I got injured and began physical therapy late last year, that things started happening for me.  A few weeks into physical therapy, I decided that it was time to join my local gym.  So in November I joined, and in December 2010, I hired a personal trainer (who was aware of my injury) and I started going…regularly. (*key word - regularly*)  After all, not being able to run for quite a few weeks was going to drive me a little batty, and I knew that in order to come back better and stronger I needed to do something.
After joining the gym, I slowly began to increase my workouts,  going from running a few miles 3 days a week, to spinning (looove!), lifting, and then eventually throwing running back into the mix and working out 6 days a week. Yes, 6 days a week!

I realized a few months into my weight loss journey, that for me, personally…it has to be more than running.  It has to be more than just working out 2-3 days a week.  It has to be about eating better, and making the right choices. I saw that in order to see and feel results I needed to shake things up, and make working out a priority in my life. Even, as a full-time, working wife and mother of 2 very sporty/active kids…I had realize that an hour away for myself, is totally OKAY.

So here I am now, 26 lbs. lighter. An accomplishment I am very proud of after struggling and not "getting-it" for years.

I will say that I still have a ways to go as far as this whole journey is concerned, but I am happy with my progress and determined to make it to my goal of losing another 10-15 lbs.  I know it’s going to be hard, but I’m so happy with my results so far and the progress I've made in my fitness.  It’s finally happening for me…and that’s what keeps me motivated.

  6. You're darn right it's happening for you! You look AMAZING! What a huge difference those 26 pounds have made for not just your body, but your confidence! I'm like you... it can't just be about running. The times it's just been about running have been very temporary and they have always resulted in me quitting and gaining the weight back. It's an all over change, and you are doing so awesome!!!
